Equinox's Challenge
Equinox retained GreenOrder to:

  • Improve the environmental performance of its clubs, with a focus on building operation and design
  • Demonstrate leadership in the green space and position Equinox as a green lifestyle company


GreenOrder's Approach
Key elements of GreenOrder's work included:

  • Market Research: Analyzed consumer trends, sustainability programs, and marketing strategies of both competing and complementary luxury brands to inform Equinox's differentiated approach
  • Eco Assessment: Identified key areas of environmental impact and provided cost-effective recommendations on club design and operation. This analysis included material selection, lighting design, energy consumption, air quality, water consumption and quality, waste, and recycling
  • Strategy Development: Worked hand-in-hand with senior leadership to develop an overarching vision, principles, and goals to guide Equinox's sustainability program
  • Implementation Roadmap and Assistance: Created a detailed two-year implementation plan, developed a custom tracking dashboard for the sustainability program, and provided ongoing project coordination to the initiative


Results
Through our work, Equinox:

  • Launched the first comprehensive sustainability program in the fitness industry
  • Implemented new operating and design standards for all new and existing clubs
  • Established co-branded partnerships with clean technology providers (including GE) as well as media and NGO partnerships
