Since 2007, GreenOrder has served as a sustainability advisor to Polo Ralph Lauren, helping to evaluate and reduce the company’s environmental footprint, especially in the areas of store, office, and distribution center operations and the broader supply chain.
Polo Ralph Lauren’s Challenge

Polo Ralph Lauren (PRL) retained GreenOrder to:

  • Assess PRL's environmental impact and opportunities for improvement
  • Prioritize environmental action in key impact areas and capture business value
  • Assist with implementation, tracking, and internal messaging of key environmental initiatives

  • GreenOrder's Approach

    Key components of GreenOrder's work included:

  • Eco Assessment to identify PRL’s key areas of environmental impact and opportunities for improvement in operations, including greenhouse gas emission impacts
  • Life cycle analysis (LCA) of an iconic product, examining “cradle to grave” impacts across a spectrum of areas including energy, water, waste, carbon, and chemicals
  • Cross-business unit working group facilitation to assist in implementation of a key environmental action priority
  • Opportunity matrix and dashboard development to prioritize potential green initiatives and track and message progress on four company-wide environmental initiatives

  • Work Example: Graphical presentation of LCA results for one stage of the product lifecycle.

    Results


    With GreenOrder's help, PRL:

  • Adapted shipping practices to significantly reduce cost and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Negotiated the company’s first green lease, a contract supporting PRL’s minimum environmental standards required for build-out and operations of offices and stores
  • Implemented greener office practices to reduce paper usage and conserve energy, and used the GreenOrder dashboard to track progress and communicate environmental metrics in clear, accessible language
